11 Simple (and free!) Ways You Can Support Us
First of all, we want to take a minute to genuinely thank you for visiting our site – it really means a lot that you’re here. That in itself is a huge showing of your support, so thank you.
Recently, we’ve had some people reach out asking how they can best show their support for us and the work we do. We are seriously lucky to have some incredibly thoughtful people rooting for us. Yes, we're talking about you.
We passionately believe that traveling adventurously and ethically doesn’t need to cost a fortune, and we want to continue to share how you can see the world in a sustainable way, even if you’re not rich. We pour hours upon hours of time into creating information-packed articles, and in order to continue this work, we rely on the support of our readers.
In this article, we’ve rounded up 11 ways that you can show your support. These things really, truly do help us out. And the best part is that it won’t cost you anything.
Thank you in advance for any way you can show your support – it is people like you who allow us to continue sharing our stories and travel advice.
1. Get social
Following our social media accounts is a super easy way to show your support! And we’ll love you for it!
Here are our accounts:
And if you like something we post (we sure hope you do!), show us some love!
“Like” it, press that heart, comment, share... We’d love to see which posts you enjoy most!
2. Go shopping!
If you want to earn rockstar status in our books, all you have to do is go shopping like you normally do online. When you want to go to Amazon, click through this link and we’ll get a small percentage of a commission. It doesn’t cost you anything extra. Not even one penny. But this is a little something extra that helps us continue spending our time creating information-packed articles for you!
If your looking for some great travel gear, head over to our packing list post or our favorite resources page which has a bunch of links to Amazon showing you want we use when we're on the road.
***Tell me more… So how does it all work? Well, these links are called “affiliate links” and pretty much any website you visit online has them. We'll break down how affiliate links work at the bottom of the article.
Keep up to date with all things Two Wandering Soles by subscribing to our email list. We never spam (one of our biggest pet peeves!), so don’t worry.
Our subscribers are the people we consider our most valued readers, and we would love for you to be a part of it.
By being a part of our email list, you’ll be the first in on any news we share and you’ll be the first to know when we have giveaways or discounts on gear.
We'll even give you our free e-book, "17 Places to Travel in 2017," when you sign up as a way of saying thank you!
4. Talk us up!
One of the best ways you can show your support is by sharing our website with friends and family. (Only if you think it’ll be helpful to them, of course!) If you know someone who’s headed to Japan, send them our itinerary for One Wild Week in Japan to help them with their planning! Or if you have a friend who is interested in teaching English in Korea, they probably want to know How to Save $22,000 in One Year Teaching English in Korea. Spread the knowledge and good karma!
Here are some of our most popular posts we think your friends and family will love...
5. Support us on Etsy
Yes, we have an Etsy shop! We started it a couple years ago after some readers asked if they could purchase our photos. This one isn’t exactly free, but we kept the prices really low so that anyone can afford to buy our photos. If you see a picture you love, you can purchase the file to download and print yourself.
Now all you have to do is find the perfect spot to hang it! We’d love if you send us a picture of our photo in your home!
A special note to our readers: If you see a photo you like on our website that’s not on our Etsy store, shoot us a message and we can get a custom sale set up for you!
6. Try out AirBnB
If you’ve never stayed at an AirBnB, you’re in for a real treat! You’ll have a more “local” experience than staying in a traditional hotel, plus, with this link, you’ll get $40 credit on your first stay. No catch.
In the spirit of full transparency, we get a little something when you book, too. This is really a win-win for both of us!
7. Audible Audio Books
Do you keep telling yourself you should read more? Me too, but who has time for that. We love listening to audio books and podcasts while on the road and Audible by Amazon is a great way to manage all your audio books and you can start checking those books off your list.
They have a free 30-day trial ($14.95/month after that) where you get two free audio books, and you can cancel any time, no catch. For every trial period (or purchased membership) we get a little kickback, so reading/listening to books are great for everyone!
8. Make money by teaching English
If you’re looking for an easy way to earn money remotely, we urge you to look into VIPKID. You can teach English over video chat sessions to students in China. And do you know what? You don’t even need experience teaching or a TEFL certificate to apply!
Ben has been teaching with them for the past couple months and really enjoys how simple it is. He can wake up and hop on a video session no matter where we may be. If you are curious about applying, feel free to shoot us a message and Ben will try to answer any questions you may have.
And if you do apply, we’d really appreciate if you go through our referral link here. You can also type our referral code (02PJGA in the box when you sign up, and Ben will get a little bonus. We’ll be oh so grateful for your support!
9. Let us help you plan your trip!
That’s what we love doing, after all! Next time you’re planning a trip, try checking out our articles for specific hotel recommendations.
It’s always nice hearing recommendations from someone who has actually been there, right?! We usually look for places that are well-located and are a good value for the price. We're always 100% honest, and if we don’t love a place, we’re not going to recommend it.
If you’re still coming up short on suggestions, feel free to send us a message and we’ll do our best to help you find a great place to stay!
When booking your hotels, use the links below for the best deals!
Agoda (our favorite booking site in Asia)
Booking (good all over the world, but great for the USA)
Hostelworld (great for Europe, South America and big cities in the U.S. – and yes, hostels often times have private rooms for a fraction of the price of a traditional hotel!)
AirBnB (see #6 – we love AirBnBs in the U.S., Canada and Europe)
Full transparency: we do receive a small commission if you book a hotel through these links, which means you are able to support us without paying anything extra.
10. Get insured
Getting travel insurance is something you should do on any trip you take. Protect yourself against theft, cancelled flights and even – heaven forbid – injuries. We’ve put together a guide to picking the right travel insurance for you, but if you don’t have time to read it all, we'll save you the reading and let you know that our pick is World Nomads. They have reliable, high-quality travel insurance that’s hard to beat. (And yes, by purchasing through this link, we’ll receive a small commission and you’ll show us some love!)
11. Connect with us
We would love to hear from you – whether you have kind words to say or constructive feedback – we want to hear it all. Fill out this form if you have something you want to say. What has been most helpful to you? What do you want to see more of? Have our articles helped you plan a trip? Messages from readers always puts smiles on our faces and motivates us to keep doing what we're doing!
***How do affiliate links work? We'll explain...
When we share our favorite products with you, the link you click on is tracked and we receive a little “kick back” for showing you that product. Know that we are always 100% honest and only recommend products we actually use and love. We will never ever recommend something that we consider sub-par.
Here’s something to think about: Almost all of the time when you click on a link that brings you to a product, the website that directed you there will get a little “kick back” for pointing you in that direction. There are also often “cookies” that stay on your browser, so even if you purchase something totally unrelated on Amazon 28 days later, it will still be counted on one of their sales. It’s good to know how this works, and honestly, it helps your favorite bloggers continue to do what they do – it is a ton of work, after all, and every little bit helps.
Note: Even if it isn’t us you choose to support, we think it’s important for people to understand how affiliate links work so you’re able to consciously support bloggers and websites whose message you believe in.
It’s not just about us
If there are other bloggers you follow and love, these things will show your support to them as well. The Internet is such a wonderful place to find all resources you need - from recipes to DIY projects to car fixes and travel advice. Thank your favorite bloggers and share with them how they've helped you. They will appreciate it more than you know!
Thank you in advance for supporting us in any way you can. You simply being here on our website means more to us than we can express.
We hope that you find something inspiring here and our goal is to help you on your journey – wherever it may lead you.
